How Asset management company (AMC) works

The AMC operates within the trust and regulatory structure, appoints fund managers and other service providers, publishes scheme documents and values schemes. One AMC can run many schemes with different mandates, so the company name alone does not describe a scheme's risk.

A rupee example

An AMC may offer an equity fund, liquid fund and gilt fund; ₹1 lakh in each is exposed to a different portfolio even though the manager belongs to the same organisation.

The example isolates one idea so the arithmetic is visible. Real outcomes can include taxes, fees, cash-flow timing and market movement that the simplified example does not model.
