Targets ₹44,77,119 in 10 years: ₹25,00,000 today inflated at 6% a year. Existing savings are assumed to grow to ₹12,96,871, leaving ₹31,80,248 for the SIP. Markets do not deliver a fixed rate; test lower returns and review the goal periodically.

Convention: contributions at the start of each month, compounded at the effective monthly rate equivalent to the assumed annual return; money already invested grows at that same rate.

How to use the Goal SIP calculator

Start from a goal cost in today's rupees, inflate it to the goal year and estimate the monthly investment, with the return and inflation assumptions visible.

  1. Enter today's cost and inflationEnter what the goal would cost today and an inflation rate for that goal. The calculator shows the inflated future-value target.
  2. Enter money already investedInclude only assets genuinely earmarked for this goal.
  3. Choose the horizonUse the number of years until payment, not an arbitrary round period.
  4. Stress-test the returnRun a lower-return case and consider whether contributions can rise over time.

Today's cost, tomorrow's target

A college course costing ₹20 lakh today will probably not cost ₹20 lakh when a young child enrols. The calculator takes the cost in today's rupees and inflates it to the goal year at the rate you enter. Education, healthcare and housing can behave differently from broad consumer inflation, so test more than one rate.

Subtract only assets reserved for this goal. Counting the same investment toward education, retirement and a home purchase creates three projections backed by one pool of money.

Why return assumptions need a range

The calculator compounds at one smooth annual rate, while real portfolios move unevenly. Contributions are treated as made at the start of each month at the equivalent effective monthly rate, and existing savings grow at the same assumed rate. Run a conservative case alongside the central case. A plan that works only at the highest assumed return has little room for valuation changes, tax, cost or missed contributions.

Review instead of set-and-forget

Revisit the target, accumulated corpus and years remaining at least annually and after a major change. As the payment date approaches, reduce dependence on volatile assets. The required SIP can rise if the goal inflates faster than expected or returns disappoint.

Frequently asked questions

Does the result guarantee the target amount?

No. It is a mathematical projection using a constant assumed return. Actual market returns vary, costs and taxes apply, and the investment path matters.

Should I enter today's goal cost or the future cost?

Enter today's cost. The calculator inflates it at the rate you choose to the year the money is needed and solves the SIP for that future-value target, which it shows alongside the result.

What conventions does the calculation use?

Contributions are assumed at the start of each month. The monthly rate is the effective rate that compounds to the assumed annual return over twelve months, and money already invested is assumed to grow at that same annual rate.

How is this different from the crorepati calculator?

The crorepati calculator starts from a fixed future amount such as ₹1 crore. This calculator starts from a cost in today's rupees and inflates it first, so the target rises with the inflation you expect for the goal.

What if the required SIP is unaffordable?

The honest levers are a later date, smaller goal, higher future contributions or more money invested now. Assuming an unrealistically high return makes the projection easier but not the goal safer.
