Separate advice from distribution

Direct mutual funds, with advice paid for separately

Direct and regular plans hold the same portfolio under the same fund manager, but regular plans include distributor commission in their annual cost. nyvo recommends direct plans and charges a separate flat advisory fee, so the fund selected cannot pay the adviser more than another fund and the cost of advice stays visible.

What this gives you

Same fund, lower embedded cost

A direct plan removes the distributor commission built into a regular plan's expense ratio. The underlying portfolio and fund manager remain the same.

Advice has a visible price

nyvo is paid through the disclosed advisory fee, not a trail commission that grows with the portfolio or varies by product.

Switching is evaluated, not automatic

Moving an existing regular holding can trigger tax and exit load. Those costs must be weighed against future savings before any change.

How it works

  1. 1

    Identify the plan

Check whether each holding says Direct or Regular and compare the expense ratio for the same scheme.

  2. 2

    Measure the ongoing gap

Estimate how the annual cost difference compounds over the remaining holding period.

  3. 3

    Check the switching cost

Review capital-gains tax, exit load and goal timing before moving an existing holding.

Important boundaries

  • Direct does not mean risk-free or guaranteed.
  • A lower fee does not make every fund suitable.
  • Switching from regular to direct is a redemption and purchase, not a free label change.

Questions people ask

Are direct and regular plans different investments?
No. They hold the same portfolio and use the same fund manager. The regular plan has a higher expense ratio because it includes distributor commission.
Does nyvo earn commission from mutual funds?
No. nyvo is paid through the disclosed advisory fee and does not receive mutual fund trail commission or kickbacks.
Should every regular plan be switched immediately?
No. A switch may create tax and exit load, and the holding still has to be judged in the context of the goal and portfolio.
Where can I model the cost difference?
Use nyvo's direct-versus-regular calculator to test a contribution, time period, return assumption and fee gap.
