How Credit score works

Credit information companies use their own models, so scores can differ. Lenders also consider income, obligations, collateral and policy; a high score improves context but does not guarantee approval or a particular rate.

The figure should always be read with its measurement period, product type and source. A precise-looking number can still answer the wrong question when two unlike products or time periods are compared.

An example

A missed EMI reported to a credit bureau can weaken the repayment history used in future credit assessment.

Why it matters for your family

Check reports for errors, pay on time and borrow within capacity. Do not take unnecessary debt merely to manipulate a score.

Connect the figure to a dated goal before acting. Money for an emergency or near-term payment has different constraints from retirement money, even when the product description quotes the same statistic.
