How Debt mutual fund works

Its NAV responds to interest rates, credit spreads, defaults, liquidity, expenses and portfolio maturity. Debt does not mean fixed return, and categories with different duration or credit exposure should not be compared as substitutes.

An example

A bond price can fall when market yields rise even if the issuer keeps paying, causing the debt fund's NAV to decline before maturity effects unfold.

Why it matters for your family

Match credit quality, duration and settlement to the date of the family goal. Chasing the highest portfolio yield can import risk that is invisible in the label.
