How Taxable income works

It is not necessarily salary, gross receipts or cash in the bank. The calculation depends on income heads, chosen regime, taxpayer status and the law for the applicable tax year.

A rupee example

Gross income of ₹12 lakh can produce a different taxable amount after eligible deductions, but the deduction amount is not itself the tax saved.

The example isolates one idea so the arithmetic is visible. Real outcomes can include taxes, fees, cash-flow timing and market movement that the simplified example does not model.

Why it matters for your family

Plan with the correct tax year and preserve evidence. Families should use official tools or qualified advice when several income types or special-rate gains are involved.
