How Loan amortisation works

An amortisation table shows the opening balance, interest, principal repaid and closing balance for each period. Floating rates, missed payments and prepayments can change the original schedule.

A rupee example

A ₹50,000 EMI might contain ₹35,000 interest and ₹15,000 principal early in the loan, with that mix reversing later while the EMI stays similar.

The example isolates one idea so the arithmetic is visible. Real outcomes can include taxes, fees, cash-flow timing and market movement that the simplified example does not model.

Why it matters for your family

Reading the schedule reveals the cost of extending tenure and the effect of prepayment. Families should not judge progress only by the number of EMIs already paid.
