How Surrender value works

It can be substantially below premiums paid, especially in early years, and is different from sum assured. Guaranteed and special surrender values follow policy terms and applicable regulation.

A rupee example

Paying ₹2 lakh of cumulative premium does not imply a ₹2 lakh surrender value; the policy schedule may provide a lower amount after applicable calculations.

The example isolates one idea so the arithmetic is visible. Real outcomes can include taxes, fees, cash-flow timing and market movement that the simplified example does not model.

Why it matters for your family

Before surrendering, compare paid-up, continuation and replacement consequences, including lost cover and new underwriting. Do not continue a poor fit solely to recover past premiums.
