You can check your PF balance in four official ways: a missed call, an SMS, the UMANG app or the EPFO member passbook. The first two need an activated UAN with your mobile number registered against it. They reply with your last contribution and balance.
Method 1: missed call
Give a missed call to 9966044425 from the mobile number registered with your UAN. The call disconnects after two rings and costs nothing, and you get the details by SMS. Your UAN must have at least one of your bank account, Aadhaar or PAN linked to it. EPFO's note on the service has the details.
Method 2: SMS
Send EPFOHO UAN to 7738299899 from your registered mobile. For a reply in another language, add its three-letter code after UAN, such as EPFOHO UAN TEL for Telugu. EPFO replies with your last contribution and balance. See EPFO's note on the SMS service.

Method 3: UMANG app
The Government's UMANG app has an EPFO section. Register with your mobile number, open EPFO and choose the passbook service. You will need your UAN and an OTP.
Method 4: EPFO member passbook
Go to the EPFO member passbook and log in with your UAN and password. Then select the member ID for the employer you want to see.
If your balance looks wrong
Contributions appear after your employer files them, so a recent month can take time to show. Interest is credited once a year after the rate is declared, so the latest year's interest may not be there yet. If an old employer's balance is missing, it may not have been transferred to your current member ID.
Don't know your UAN?
Your payslip usually shows it, or your employer can tell you. EPFO's help page lists its support channels.
To project the balance forward, use the EPF calculator. The gratuity calculator covers the other lump sum you may be due when you leave.
